About the event
Since 2023 the University of York has been excavating an important group of early medieval buildings adjacent to Skipsea Castle, south of Bridlington. The structures include a possible malthouse and cellared tower dating to before the Norman Conquest. Earlier occupation of the site is indicated by finds of prehistoric pottery and deposits along the shores of surrounding wetland areas. The excavation has featured in the press and on the recent series of the BBCTV programme ‘Digging for Britain’.
