About the event

Since 2009 MAP Archaeological Practice have excavated a series of areas in advance of the major housing development in the High Eastfield/Middle Deepdale area to the north of Eastfield town.

Having previously discovered occupation from the Neolithic to Roman periods in 2019 they moved onto the area immediately east of the former High Eastfield Farm. Geophysical survey and extensive trial trenching had indicated the presence of further Neolithic and Iron Age/Roman period occupation seemingly similar in character to that seen to the east of Deepdale, a small valley that cuts through the centre of the development area.

The reality was rather different an extensive area of Neolithic pitting was found immediately west of Deepdale and, on the top of a shoulder of land further west and major Iron Age and Roman period site incorporating major high status third and fourth century Roman buildings with a curious history that had escaped detection in the geophysics and trial trenching - the Eastfield 'enigma' was borne!

Refreshments are available from 7pm and the talk will start at 7.30pm.

To ensure security of the Hall, no admission after 7.30pm.

Entrance is free to Society members with a £3 charge for visitors.  Everyone welcome.
