About the event

This members only event is designed to give member volunteers the experience and opportunity of handling and cleaning mainly Roman material, the majority of which will be tessarae from two different high status Roman sites collected through fieldwalking.  One of the sites is local in North Yorkshire and the other from the East Riding of Yorkshire.  Following cleaning, the volunteers will be tasked with grouping, counting and measuring the material to provide essential information to allow it to be recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database.  Training and assistance will be provided throughout the evening by Robin Siddle, who is a qualified archaeologist and has recorded thousands of objects on the Portable Antiquities Scheme website as a trained self-recorder.
